I am indeed still in Manchester. I decided it was too costly to go home, and I would get more work done without the distractions of friends and family, hence I'm spending most of my time up here between Maths and Sleep :)

(stretching) As a devoted night owl, I totally understand you. Just woke up... time to eat some caviar and to do some maths... ;)

Long after. When I was a student, I took a suburban train at 8:23 AM every morning to get from city to our campus. One-way journey took me almost two hours. That included Saturdays!

We usually had 4 pairs a day, each pair consisting of two hours. No Easter breaks, of course. Oral exams: you get 4 out of 5 if you answer two theoretical questions, including proofs. To get a 5, one needed to solve an extra-curricular problem.

And this hell lasted 5 years, not 3.

My average mark was 5.0.

Now taking the number 42 bus doesn't seem quite as long!
I couldn't imagine a 5 year course. Everyone thinks I'm mad enough as it is signing up for a 4 year Masters!

I'm not surprised about your average, however, I am still very impressed :) I enjoyed the supervisions we had last semester for the fact that it was very refreshing to see somebody so competent at a subject (at my secondary school, many of our teachers were...slightly substandard or mediocre. Indeed, the only subject we excelled in at our school was Maths! We had a very good department).

Time to catch up on the last few hours of posts, I feel :)
